[00:04:15] Speaker D: Sister Michelle we received some complaints last week. There were persons who said we just scratched the surface. We whetted their appetite, all the objectives and connotations that you can think of. So we had no choice but to invite you to come back again. [00:04:36] Speaker A: Thank you. It's my pleasure to be here. [00:04:39] Speaker D: So, Sister Michelle, could you refresh us, could you refresh our memories as to some of the key points that we discussed last week? [00:04:50] Speaker A: Certainly, brother Terry. You know, I'm hoping that you remembered that we went all the way back to the book of Genesis, and we examined the fall of mankind, and it was there that we were able to identify that man's ideal environment is in God's presence. I'm going to say that again. Man's ideal environment is in God's presence. And since the fall of Adam or the fall of mankind, we noticed that he has been trying to get back into God's divine presence. Cain and Abel would have presented our burnt offerings. We said Noah would have built an altar. Even Moses built a tabernacle to host the presence of God. But as I was thinking this week, I remembered a very critical quote by Apostle Joshua Salmon. And he said, a worshipper is someone who understands the dynamics of hosting God. A worshipper is someone who understands the dynamics of hosting God. And as we move up to the New Testament, we can see very clearly that the word declares that if we are worshippers, we are to present our bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable unto God. Worship is connected to loss. It's an act of surrender. It's an act of obedience. [00:06:24] Speaker D: Wow. Sister Michelle. But how can someone apply though worship to the daily aspects of their life? So we spoken a lot about worship and what it means. But on a practical, day to day basis, how can I apply it? [00:06:42] Speaker A: Well, the word says in psalms 24, verses three and four, who shall ascend the hill of the Lord, or who shall stand in his holy place? He that has clean hands and a pure heart, who has not lifted up his soul unto vanity, nor sworn deceitfully. So in order for me to apply worship practically, I have to understand how I have to get up or ascend this hill. Yes, there is a hill. There is a progression of praise in the word of God. We see there are various dimensions of praise and worship. So I want you to picture a hill and picture yourself being at the bottom of this hill, and then imagine yourself climbing up to Zion, to where God is, to where we see him, and where we see his manifest presence and his glory. The word says that in the book of psalms, one of the ways we give thanks at the bottom of this hill is by offering totem, and Tota is giving God praise. But as we give God praise, we are actually using our bodies. It means to make confession to God. It's an extending of the hand to God. It's like a. Just because he is God prayers. I'm not thanking him necessarily for anything. Just because you are God. I'm going to lift my hands. I'm going to extend my hands to you. We see oftentimes in church, people lift their hands, and I'm wondering if we really understand why. But this evening we have found out that Torah means we extend our hands to God. [00:08:33] Speaker D: And I guess one of the things that we are working towards is for God to walk in that room. And we have a song here by. I guess it'd be our favorite artist so far, dancing or you can. It's called when God walks in. And I think this sound really speaks to this. [00:09:00] Speaker C: When God walks in on us every gate is on the lionesse this is holy moment. When God walks in on us every gate is on the lionesse and this is only moment when God walks in on us every gate is on the land this is holy moment when God walks in on us every day every day is on the light of day glory when the glory when the glory comes there when the glory comes. [00:12:19] Speaker D: What a sound. What a song. That song does something to me. Sister Michelle, and you were just about to expand before we had to go over there. Could. Could you continue to tell us about these levels that you're speaking about of worship? [00:12:38] Speaker A: Certainly. They're the dimensions of praise, and the third dimension is called Halal. And I'm sure from the word halal, you can probably hear the word hallelujah. And the word halal means to sing praises unto God, to boast, to commend him, to rave about him, to be clamorously foolish concerning our God. We move on to the fourth dimension, Shabbak. Shabbak is to address God in a very loud voice. We actually shout our praise unto God with a voice of triumph. So you've told him, you've halal him, you shabbat him. And these are three very critical and practical dimensions of praise and worship. [00:13:30] Speaker D: You can call us at 467-7355 send us a WhatsApp on 256-5433 as we continue to discuss worship. And we are pleased to have someone at the level of a worship leader to discuss it with us. Now, there are different types of music that you would, you will find being offered up. And one day, one, the types that I like is actually from the old school. And we know that there's a lot of modern music that really gets us in the worship mode. But these older songs, you find people, maybe shine away from singing some of these other songs, like from the legends like Andrea Crouch and, and those people. What is your view on the merging of the older music with the newer modern music artists like done saying, well, you can. [00:14:34] Speaker A: Music has so much power, and research shows that music can reduce stress and anxiety and depression. But there's something very special about gospel music. You spoke about merging the old with the new, but songs come out of your experiences, out of your revelation with God. Songs come out of the particular era, era that you are in. So merging old songs with new songs, that's all well and good, but it's the essence of the song there. It's a song biblically correct. It's a beat that, yes, we know we might be able to rock to and sing along with. But does it capture, does it engage the presence of God? [00:15:28] Speaker D: Right. So I, and that is the key point that we've always made, that is about the presence of God and attracting the presence of God. So as a worship leader, do you have a particular style that you prefer of worship? [00:15:50] Speaker A: I'm not sure if I understand the particular style that you're asking me about, Brother Terry, but I can say this to you. Anytime I'm going to engage the presence of God or host his presence, there are critical things that I'm looking for in the music that I select one. Does it align with the word of God? [00:16:11] Speaker D: Well, go ahead. And I think that you hold that as your anchor. That aligns with the word of God. And you're not just seeing any song, you're examining it to see whether it's going to align with what you want to do to please God. [00:16:31] Speaker A: Certainly there's a time and a place for everything. So at the beginning of your worship set, for example, as people are entering into the church, you might probably want to do something that's a little more lively. You know, somebody is coming in, they would have just dealt with the, the pot on the stove. Somebody had to deal with their child in the car park. Tiny ladies. You might have even had an argument with your wife at home. So in the very beginning stages, for example, for congregational worship, what you would want to do is have something that's lively, something that engages your congregation, may cause them to lift their hands and move their bodies. And then you might want to go into what we call that deeper worship, where the focus is really on God's character and who he is and what he done. [00:17:26] Speaker D: So I realized you were kind of like trying to shy away from the question I was asking. But I had to extract that out of you because I know you have a liking for the reggae style. And we're gonna play another tune here now. It's holy is the Lord God almighty by the Toronto mass square reggae style. [00:17:55] Speaker C: We stand and lift up our head for the joy singing, if you know. Hey, we bow down and worship him now how great, how awesome is he sing with me. The earth is filled with his glory holy God almighty. We stand and lift up our. For the joy of the Lord is my strength me bow down and worship him now how great, how awesome is he? Holy is the Lord God Almighty. [00:19:38] Speaker A: You. [00:19:44] Speaker C: Might be holy in the. Holy is a lord. Yeah. [00:20:20] Speaker D: Sister Michelle, I can hear those tones in there. And as a Westin, you kind of connect with that sort of worship. [00:20:32] Speaker A: Certainly worship is derived from a wellspring of what is within you. You've presented your body as a living sacrifice unto the Lord, holy and acceptable unto him. But you still reside in this physical body and you still reside in this land and in this nation. We are caribbean people, so it only comes naturally to us that parts of the way we express ourselves as unto God will be a reflection of our culture. [00:21:05] Speaker D: Well, you. You present things with such clarity. We have a caller on the line, um, who wants to ask us a question, so we're going to go straight to the phone lines. [00:21:14] Speaker E: Hi. Hello. [00:21:15] Speaker D: Hello. Good evening. [00:21:16] Speaker E: Hi. Hey. Hi. Good evening. Yeah, um, I was glad when she mentioned when we. Sister Michelle mentioned the fact that sometimes people come in with different issues, like they might have had a quarrel, whatever. What about the worship leader? As you're. You. You come in to lead God's people into worship, into his presence. He knows all things. He sees all things. And you've just had a, you know, ding dong argument with maybe a spouse or whatever, but you have to lead people. Do you shelve your personal stuff in order to bring the corporate body? I just wanted to discuss that aspect. As a worship leader, you're dealing with that, but you want. But you're also starting to lead people into worship. You're coming into worship. Can you address that, please? [00:22:05] Speaker A: Certainly. Good evening to you and thank you so much for calling. You as a worship leader, are led of God. However, that does not negate the fact that you will have your issues. At times, we have to be very mindful of how the enemy will use different circumstances and different situations to distract us or sideract us from what our appointment or what our purpose is specifically on that morning or evening that you are supposed to be leading the people of God in worship. God knows exactly where we are at. He knows exactly how we feel, feel. He knows what we have gone through. He heard the arguments. He heard the conversation. He is fully aware. I will say to you this. You bring your full self, your true self, your emotions, to the king of kings. Yes. You are there to lead him, but lead people into worship. But your first connection is with him. And then he uses you as a conduit for what he would want to take place in his sanctuary at the appointed time. So you bring your issues to God, you tell him exactly how you feel, you express yourself to him, explain yourself to him, and then you leave it there. [00:23:28] Speaker E: Yeah. [00:23:28] Speaker A: It is all about you. I know people say it's not about you, it's about God. But this evening, I want to declare it's not only about God, it's also about you, because you are that vessel that he has chosen to use. You are important to him, not only to your congregation. So you bring all of who you are to God and you leave it there and you go forward and you lead those people in worship. [00:23:57] Speaker E: Yes. And I glad you said that because I believe also that even as you, as you, as you say, bring your whole self and just release yourself, that you yourself will get ministered to and heal as well. [00:24:10] Speaker A: That has been my experience so many times. You know, sometimes people look at us on the platform and they think, oh, we are the poster children for perception. Not knowing that we too are, have sickness, not knowing that we too have bills, not knowing that we too have our own issues. But, you know, God displays his mercy and he bestows his grace on us and, oh, what an awesome God he is. [00:24:37] Speaker E: Yes. Right. And I want to say to those who might go this, through this experience, because some people say, but I want up on the platform because I feel like a hypocrite or, you know, the enemy would try to bring condemnation. But you rightfully say that as we bring our full selves to him, he, knowing all that we've gone through even prior to the worship, he knows that he will bring ministry to not only to the congregation, but to us, too. [00:25:01] Speaker A: That's right. Yes, ma'am. [00:25:02] Speaker D: Thank you so much, caller. You know, and as she was speaking, I was reminded of a counseling course that I did, and I went to learn basically to become a counselor. But I ended up being counseled even as I was learning. And one of the key points that the lecturer had made was that you cannot pour from an empty cup. You've got to fill your cup at first to be able to pour to others. We have a sound that I find does a good job to fill us up. And it's from the old school, very totally opposite to the reggae that we played. But it's a favorite of mine. Oh, it is Jesus by Andrea crouched. [00:25:54] Speaker B: And. [00:26:14] Speaker C: It'S Jesus in my soul for I have touched love him of his moment and his love has made me hope it is Jesus I tried oh, I could seem like nothing did me any good then I heard Jesus he was passing bye. And I decided to give him a try no, it is always all I had to do is touch me home yes, my Jesus I was quiet when I was blue all I did was love his garment made me whole life make me whole. [00:28:59] Speaker D: Released in 1984, but still sounding fresh in 2024. Sister Michelle, we're gonna flow right into another question, and I want to ask you what personal benefits come from regular worship? [00:29:19] Speaker A: Oh, my goodness. This question is loaded. I opened the program by saying that a worshiper is someone who understands the dynamics of hosting God. Hosting the presence of God. Now, we know that the presence of God brings joy and peace and blessing and power and healing and victory and all these things. But this is not just me saying that. Let me go right back to the word. I don't know if you remember Joshua and the battle of Jericho. I think it's found in Joshua, chapter six, when they were commanded to march around the city for seven days with the priests blowing trumpets and the people shouting. Sounds like Shabbat to me. Sounds like zamar prays, prays on the instruments, and then Shabbat, shouting unto the Lord. But the word says that on the 7th day, after the 7th march, the walls of Jericho came down. I have not heard anything about any guns or any knives. I didn't hear about the cutlass or the machete. It was the praise and worship of the people that caused Joshua to win that battle. Do you remember Jehoshaphat? In two chronicles 20, the word of God says that. Jehoshaphat, King Jehoshaphat sought the Lord in prayer and in praise. The word says that God assured him of the victory and then told him to send out singers. Singers, brother Terry. To praise God ahead of the army. So the worship team went forth first. The singers went forth first. And the word says that as the people sang and as they worshiped, the enemy turned on each other, leading to their defeat. So you can imagine the personal benefits of praising and of worshiping God. It will mean then that you might have an issue on your job. You don't have to go and cuss people out. You may have an issue with your neighborhood, you don't have to go and fight them with guns and knives. For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but they are mighty through God for the pulling down of strongholds. And we see that we can use worship to pull down strongholds without even having to touch anyone, hurt anyone, harm anyone. [00:31:55] Speaker D: I just love the way you are tying everything together. Things that we've heard over the years, you're really lining them up. And one thing I can say is that one of the times when you really feel into worship is in God's presence. And we have a song here that to me sums up how you feel in God's presence. And you want to desire to be in his presence, to worship him. [00:32:44] Speaker C: Enjoy his praise, his joy. He is that love. Thank you, Jesus. I want. I want to go where the river stand on me when my feet are on the road there's a word I want to hide where the blazing fire cannot burn me in your presence, o God in your presence that's where I am strong in your presence, o Lord my God in your presence end that's where I belong see your face in the path of the road. [00:34:30] Speaker A: In your. [00:34:31] Speaker C: Presence, o goddesse I want to go I want to go where the rivers cannot over cannot overthrow me when my feet are on the road I want to hide when I racing fire in your presence of God in your presence that's where I am so in your presence o Lord my God in your presence land that's where I. [00:35:47] Speaker D: You can call us at 467-7355 the landline or you can watch. In your presence that's where I am strong and sister Michelle, while we were at the break, you were. You were telling me about how God's presence helped Paul and Silas. [00:36:13] Speaker A: That's right, brother Terry. But before I go there, let me say God's desire really is for a man to live and dwell in his presence. And last week we said that praise and worship attracted the presence of God. And that's so important to remember because when we do things, when we say things, the way we live and how we operate, how we move must attract the presence of God. Because the truth is his presence is the only essential ingredient in worship. And that's a quote I remember from the late Doctor Miles Monroe. But in the word of God, we see in the book of acts that Paul and Silas experienced a remarkable manifestation of the presence of God. Now we remember that they were unjustly imprisoned, but the word says that Paul and Silas worship God through the singing of hymns and prayers. And we haven't yet talked about this dimension of worship. But to healer, to healer is a song that publicly praises God. It's the kind of worship that God dwells in. And according to psalm 43, and he has put a new song in my mouth, even praise to healer, unto God. Many shall see it and fear and trust in the Lord. So right here in the New Testament, we see Paul and Silas. Let me make up my word to healer in God. And the word says, right, that their praise led to such a miraculous intervention that the earthquake shake up the prison. Shut the prison if I'm going to be dignified. The word says that they were freed from their chains. And not only were they released, but the jailer, yes, the prison warden, he and his household came to believe in God. So the presence of God and that manifestation of God and the way we worship God causes people as well to experience God. [00:38:45] Speaker D: Well, thank you so much for expanding that for us, Sister Michelle. We're gonna go straight to the phone lines now. We have a caller. Good evening, caller. [00:38:56] Speaker E: Good afternoon. [00:38:57] Speaker D: Yes, good evening. [00:38:59] Speaker E: I'm on a solid phone, so I can't do much talk, and I gotta wrap up all of my words and walk. [00:39:04] Speaker D: Okay, go ahead, quickly. [00:39:06] Speaker E: I want to know why worship leaders have to make it a job and get a salary. [00:39:17] Speaker D: But we have a worship leader right here who can't tell you how much she gets paid to. [00:39:23] Speaker A: Oh, brother Terry, before I can do. [00:39:26] Speaker E: My stalking, I will listen, but I just want to ask the questions right. I think that when you are leading people into God straight from your heart, including money, because then as you're doing these things for money, you're not doing it for God, you're making a living. [00:39:43] Speaker D: Okay, well, I can assure you that system, Michelle is very well paid, says Michelle. [00:39:49] Speaker A: Oh, brother Terry Caller thank you so much. I am not paid. Let me start by saying that I am not paid and I do not receive a salary or a paycheck. But I want to shift your thinking, if you would allow me to, ma'am. Worship is about your heart's posture. However, there are some churches and some dynamics who hold worship in high esteem, so much so that the worship leader does not only function on Sundays, they function, and they operate from Monday right back through to the next Monday. It is a difficult job. It is a hard job. And I'm saying job deliberately because it requires not only that, that spiritual element, but it also requires your thinking, it requires your education, it requires your knowledge. It requires your bodily function. And therefore, I have no issue if a worship leader is employed by a church to carry out the mandate of the church. You see, we only see what happens on Sunday mornings. But I can say something to you this evening. Worship leader requires great preparation. And depending on the dynamic of your church or the culture of your church or where you are located, this preparation cannot, and I guarantee you, it cannot happen this Saturday night if your church is one where you know their weddings and funerals and I. There are other teachings and different classes going on. Why can't the worship leader be paid? They may not even have a job outside of leading worship. But don't only think that that's all that is done. What you see on Sunday mornings, it requires great preparation. [00:41:56] Speaker D: Caller, you're still with us? I think the caller is gone, but we just want to shout out our home church, Covenant life teaching center in Green Hill. You're free to come and join us any Sunday at 830 for worship. Amen. [00:42:16] Speaker B: So, just got this message from WhatsApp. It says, good evening. I'm here enjoying the presence of God through your program. Blessings to you in abundance. [00:42:25] Speaker D: Thank you. So we thank you for those comments. Now we're gonna. We're gonna move to another song here, and this is a song again by Mister Oye Kan. Mister don't say no. You can. And it's. It's no me without you. And I just wanted to take a listen to some of the lyrics that he's presented. [00:43:06] Speaker C: Tell it without the revelation. You better tell him nothing without the cross there'll be no sacrifice without your blood all these you need for me lift it up no throne without no throne without the cross there's no sacrifice without your blood know me without you without a sacrifice without you lift it. [00:44:34] Speaker A: Up. [00:44:38] Speaker C: Without the cross, without the us know me without you no grow without the cross there's no set all that you need for me we call you Jesus say no without the cross there's no sacrifice without your blood what did you be without you know me lift it up no throne without the cross without the cross there's no sacrifice thank you for the sacrifice all these, all these are more not me no more without a cross there's no sacrificing without your blood, all these and more, all these are more, all these are these and more you think for me not throne without the cross that's no sacrifice. [00:47:01] Speaker D: Without your. [00:47:16] Speaker C: Without you me don't be without you without your cross thank you, Jesus. [00:47:47] Speaker D: From the album the great commission. No throne without the cross. Sister Michelle, as a, as a worship leader, you, you jump all over that. [00:48:02] Speaker A: I do, and I did. I just love Duncan. Duncan. Oye, Kans ministry. It is so worshipful. I love the way he creates that space for free worship and, and how the songs, you know, always build. There's like a gentle intensity. I love the intimate worship. I love the, the songs of adoration, you know, unto our God. And more than that, I like songs with lyrical depth, songs that actually directly address God and allow me to say to him exactly how I feel. Lord, there really ain't a me without you. You know? There's no me without you. [00:48:44] Speaker D: So you're saying that this is not just a Sunday morning thing. This is something that I could take into my workplace on the highways, the byways, when I'm traveling. You know, I can take this everywhere I go. [00:48:58] Speaker A: Everywhere you go. A worshipper is someone who understands, understands the dynamics of hosting, the presence of God. We are his temple and he is dwelling within us. So wherever I am, he is, wherever I go, there he is, he is within me. [00:49:26] Speaker B: And of course, elevate. Take me higher is sponsored by auto aid gps tracking solutions. [00:50:50] Speaker D: Well, Sister Michelle, as much as we enjoy these new age ministers, we can't forget the foundation persons. And I remember as a boy growing up, there was a song I would hear played. I mean it was on the 45 at that time because, you know, we had 45s or LP's, but I remember the 45. I remember the scratching in the needle and this song by Sister Marshall crumbs from the table. It's a personal favorite of mine. So we're gonna play that song now and go back in time. [00:51:24] Speaker C: Bless my children to walk in perfection o my niche to master your way give me patience all sweet build my body provide rain feed the children forgive me the crown from the table I wait on it all on my knee I be ever so grateful for the crown from the day for strength Lord, I am not worthy to be from the bladder for I'm just on me be the crown from the table I'll wait for them down on my knee I be ever so grateful for the crown from the table for slave. [00:54:24] Speaker D: Wow, that song almost has me speechless. Well, Sister Michelle, there are no more turns and we are on the home stretch. Now, I'm just gonna ask you to summarize. I can't even dive into the crumbs from the table and what it means, you know, but we could just let you have the closing words before we wrap up. [00:54:48] Speaker A: Thank you, brother Terry. Last week I left a closing tip with worship team leaders and worship members and persons who flow in ministry every Sunday or Wednesday or whenever. And I just want to say to you that worship requires sincerity. Yes, but sincerity really is no substitution for purity. We have to be void of ego. The platform is no place for showing off our skills and having bad attitudes and dishonoring leadership. And if we want God's presence to dwell and rest and reside in churches every Sunday or every Wednesday when we are there, we have to be proper carriers of this presence. So I want to say in my closing for this week, I want to declare that we will be inspired and to trust God and to really worship him and that we would remember every time we open our mouths, every time we walk into a room, we are actually declaring the goodness and the favor and the graciousness and the glory of God in us, through us and with us wherever we go. [00:56:06] Speaker D: Sister Michelle, I want to sincerely thank you for taking time out of your busy, busy schedule.
